Purr Canteen

Service that changing the way cats eat and fed so that they can find healthy and biologically appropriate habits, and allowing breeders to raise cats more scientifically

Frame 1.png

Project overview

Cats are recognized to have evolved as obligate carnivores, consuming foods  (small mammals, insects, birds) containing mostly water, protein, and relatively little carbohydrate or fat. Studies have shown that cats are less efficient than some other mammals are at metabolizing dietary carbohydrates under certain circumstances. This observation appears to have led to speculation that long term feeding of carbohydrates may have detrimental effects on the health of cats. Concerns have been raised that some association between the carbohydrate content of dry cat foods and risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus may exist. This project uses the service design research method to design the scientific feeding pet cat food products, which will make the lives of cats and their owners more harmonious and happy, and promote the healthy and healthy development of the pet food market.

Details

When: 2019 - 3 months; 2022 - 1 week

Methods: design research (various), insights definition, prototyping, visual design, brand design, wireframe design

My Role: All of the project were made on my own in 2019 when I haven't learnt about service design. I made some changes in 2022 to improve UX and UI.

Context

As the owner of two cats, I was very concerned about their health and in gradually getting to know the animal as a cat, I found that raw bones fit their biological habits. However, there are some problems with feeding raw meat, such as bacteria, ratios, other nutrients, etc. Young people today sometimes don't have the time to spend on this matter, so I wanted to design a service that would address the health of cats and the way they are fed by their owners

Research

Methods
  • Secondary research

  • Data collection

  • Expert interviews

  • On-site interviews

  • Empathy mapping

  • Role playing

  • Co-creation workshops

3.jpg

I researched the eating behaviour and physiology of cats and checked the habits of stray cats as a comparison.

Insights:

It is the nature of cats to eat raw meat.

3.jpg

I researched the development of the food industry for cats and the way they are fed.

Insights:

The cat food industry is primarily about making things easier for cat owners.

The nature of cats is not considered first.

5.jpg
7.jpg

I recorded the cat's eating behaviour throughout the day and discussed it with the owner and app development experts.

Key insight:

Modern industrial cat food is made to facilitate the feeding of cats, but it does not really fit the cat's diet and people often do not recognise this.

Solution

Methods
  • Concept development

  • Journey mapping

  • User flow

  • Wireframe design

  • UI/UX design

Frame 1768 (1).png

I get the concept from cat owners, cat food, and nutrition.

  • Cat owners use the app to manage and analyse their cat's diet

  • Veterinary advice available

  • Raw meat delivery and complementary feeding machines available

UI/UX Design

User Flow

Before

The flow is cumbersome and complex, does not show the user's main functions and the path back is unclear.

8.jpg
After

The main functions and flows are presented and the user has a clear idea of what they want to do.

Data analysis

Before

The design does not follow the Human Interface Guidelines.

After

I have retained the function to display statistics on the home page, but have added experiential aspects in the hope that owners will have some idea of their cat's health status before they buy the product

Check the order

Before

The information on the order page is not well organised.

订单页面1.png
After

The order page has been redesigned to make it easier for users to see their order history and transaction history directly

Make an order

Before

Too much information makes it difficult for users to know what they are aiming for.

After

After placing a successful order, users will first be redirected to the congratulations page to make them feel involved in the cat's health decisions, thus increasing their experience and stickiness

Vet consult

Before

Poor readability, typing only.

After

The information on the veterinarian page has been simplified for a more intuitive and clear effect, and the cat health statistics that come with the app can be sent directly to the veterinarian during the consultation, making the consultation with the veterinarian and the purchase of the product two things tied together and increasing the frequency of use
